Shari studied piano at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto then continued with her music studies at McMaster University (Hamilton) and York University (Toronto). At McMaster, her studies were varied and concluded with a Diploma in Music Performance in classical piano and a Minor in Music. Following that, at York University, Shari studied non-classical music, including piano improvisation, ragtime, and blues, and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music. Shari has been teaching piano and music theory to children and adults since the early 2000s. Working with a children's musical theatre group as musical director and piano accompanist has been a highlight of Shari's musical career — she especially enjoyed participating in Anne Butler's production of Jack the Ripper. In her spare time, Shari plays the ukulele.
