Shari studied piano at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto then continued with her music studies at McMaster University and York University. She started out with classical piano and ended up focusing on improvisation. In the end, she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music as well as a Diploma in Music Performance in classical piano.

Shari has taught piano and music theory to children and adults since the early 2000s.

She has recorded improvisations with Justin Haynes on two pianos and synth. The duo is called Bok Choy. A selection of recordings is online HERE, recorded in 2013, 2015, and 2016, released in January 2019. An accompanying video by Justin Haynes is also online.

Working with a children's musical theatre group as musical director and piano accompanist has been a highlight of Shari's musical career; she especially enjoyed participating in Anne Butler's production of Jack the Ripper. Other productions include Oklahoma and Les Miserables.
